There’s something special about surf culture that’s hard to explain unless you’ve lived it. Early mornings. Sandy feet. Boards stacked in the car. Chasing swells before school or work. For us, surfing has always been more than just a hobby — it’s been part of life.
Growing up on the Jersey Shore, we spent countless days at the beach chasing waves, fishing, soaking up the sun, and doing whatever we could to stay connected to the ocean. But throughout the years, prepping for a surf sesh always felt like more work than it should when it came to waxing up a board.
It always bugged us that surf wax didn’t stick easily to a clean board without first applying a base coat. On top of that, growing up in Jersey meant dealing with water temperatures ranging from 38° winters to 80° summer days. Needing different surf wax formulas for different conditions got to be a hassle.
Every surf shop shelf is packed with base coat surf wax, top coat surf wax, tropical surf wax, cold water surf wax, cool water surf wax, and warm water surf wax.
Over the years, we kept asking ourselves one simple question: Why hasn’t someone created one surf wax that works for everything?
That single question became the beginning of Gooey.
Over the next few years, we focused on creating an, all in one surf wax formula. We tested tons of different ingredients and methods across ranges of temperatures to create something simple, effective, and easy to use.
Fast forward 3 years later and Gooey was born!
